A man was arrested today after a gun attack on a nightclub doorman in west Dublin being linked to the ongoing feud between drug gangs in the Crumlin/Drimnagh area.

The shooting took place at around 2am at the Hush nightclub adjoining the Red Cow Inn on the Naas Road, Clondalkin.

The doorman (38) suffered a single gunshot wound and was taken to Tallaght Hospital for treatment. A garda spokesman said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 23-year-old man was arrested by officers on patrol in the Dolphin House area of Kilmainham during what gardai described as a violent struggle.

"One of the Garda members sustained a broken bone in his hand during the course of this arrest," a spokesman said.

"This man is presently detained at Clondalkin Garda Station under section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act."

A car, believed to have been used in the attack, was also recovered in the same area. The weapon is thought to have been a handgun.

A Garda spokesman said the gunman and doorman were talking before the shooting took place. "There's footage of the guy talking to the bouncer and the bouncer talking to him, and then after that we couldn't really tell you. "But there was dialogue between the two," he said.

A spokeswoman for Tallaght Hospital said the doorman was in a stable and comfortable condition and confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses in the area at the time to come forward, in particular a man and a young boy who were near the doorway at that time.
