A man in his 50s who admitted sexually assaulting twin sisters has been jailed for four years. The man, who cannot be identified to protect the identities of the girls, admitted 21 counts of sexual assault over a five-year period beginning in January 2000.
The assaults happened after he had been drinking and took place when they were in bed.
He would put his hands inside their night-clothes and assault them. He would assault one then the other.
Dundalk Circuit Criminal Court heard that the girls would "feign sleep. They were too afraid to open their eyes." Their mother told the court that the girls, who are now teenagers, are still traumatised by what happened to them.
"This person has taken their innocence away from them," she told the court.
They wake up with nightmares and are very nervous around males.
