Mandela honours De Klerk

Cape Town - President Mandela paid warm tribute yesterday to the former South African President, Mr F.W. de Klerk, who announced his retirement from active politics earlier this week. "The relatively peaceful transition that South Africa underwent was thanks in part to his contribution," Mr Mandela said. "In doing so he put his political career and life in danger, and became one of the eminent midwives of the new democratic order."
