The Minister for Health will meet representatives from the Irish Haemophilia Society (IHS) today to discuss a new tribunal into the infection of haemophiliacs with HIV.

They will also try agree on compensation for victims.

An estimated 105 haemophiliacs were infected with HIV through imported and blood products made by the Blood Transfusion Service Board. Some 64 people have since died.

Mr Míchael Martin will discuss the findings of a report into the feasibility of investigating the role of overseas pharmaceutical companies in the infection tragedy. Although the issue was discussed at a Cabinet meeting yesterday, no decision was made on whether to establish a tribunal on the drugs firms.

The Minister is also expected to present the IHS with the wording of a revision of the original 1991 "no fault" settlement offered as compensation.
