Anglo Irish Bank said today finance director and chief risk officer William McAteer has resigned from the bank and the board.

Matt Moran has been appointed as the Bank's finance director-designate. Anglo has decided to split the roles of finance director and chief risk officer and said the latter will be “filled by an external candidate with international best practice experience in the function”.

Pending this appointment, Peter Butler, the managing director of the wealth management division has been appointed to the role in an acting capacity.

Donal O'Connor, Anglo Irish Bank’s chairman said a new chief executive would be appointed before the company’s egm on January 16th.

“The Board will also be strengthened through the appointment of a number of new non-executive directors in the near future. The combination of new management and Board appointments represent key initial steps in the re-building of trust and confidence in the bank,” Mr O'Connor said.
