GAA:Seán Boylan is on the verge of making a remarkable return as Meath football manager. Today's announcement from the county committee confirms plans to remove Seámus McEnaney from the position at next Wednesday's meeting and appoint Boylan.
“It has been decided by Coiste Bainistí,” runs the statement, “to recommend to the next meeting of Coiste na Mí C.L.G. (Wednesday 18th April) that Seamus McEnaney’s term as Meath senior football team manager be terminated. Coiste Bainistí is also recommending that Sean Boylan be appointed as Meath senior football team manager.”
Former Monaghan manager McEnaney is in the second year of his appointment but after a disappointing first year, the county was condemned to Division Three of the football league after losing to Louth last weekend. Boylan previously managed the county for 23 years and won All-Ireland titles in 1987, ’88, ’96 and ’99.
He also managed the Ireland international rules team in 2006 and ’08 and last week stepped down as Meath’s director of football.
