Nora and her husband, Sean, went to dinner with close friends. A lovely evening. The friends were overjoyed that their son, who had been abroad for over a year, was now back and going to work in Dublin.
Nora thought the boy a bit manic and loud but that may have been coloured by what happened later. Nora left her handbag in the sitting room during dinner and only picked it up on the way out when the evening was over
£50 was missing from the wallet. Sean said to do nothing and say nothing. Nora said it had to have been the boy. She knew the money was in her wallet and so did Sean, they had made a joke about her carrying all that cash. There was no other person in the house. Nora asks, is Sean right? Is the solution to blank it out and to hold tightly onto your handbag in future? Somewhere in her heart she thinks that something should be said and, if so, exactly what?
