New arrivals at Dublin Zoo in time for Christmas

Two baby monkeys are born in time for the festive season celebrations

It is going to be an extra special Christmas for Dublin Zoo with the arrival of two baby monkeys.

A white-crowned mangabey weighed 350g when it was born on November 27th

. Keepers have not been able to get close enough to check the gender yet.

Team leader Helen Clarke-Bennett said newborn was doing well and bonding with its mother.

“ The baby joins a troop of eight white-crowned mangabeys, three of which are under three years of age, so the new arrival will have plenty of playmates to grow and develop with,” she said.

A Sulawesi crested macaque was born earlier this month on December 5th and will join a troop of 17.

The baby will stay feeding from its mother for up to a year.

The zoo will be open all over Christmas except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
