Retired American football star Mr OJ Simpson was briefly detained by Miami police today after an alleged scuffle in traffic in December, 2000.

Driver Jeffrey Pattinson accused Mr Simpson of scratching him when Mr Simpson allegedly pulled off his glasses during an argument in heavy traffic in the town of Kendall, just south of Miami.

Mr Simpson was detained for just a few hours until he posted a $9,000 bond, his attorney said.

Though he was found innocent by a Los Angeles criminal court jury in 1995 of murdering his ex-wife and her friend, in 1997, a civil jury found Mr Simpson liable for the June 12, 1994, deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson, his former wife, and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Since then, Mr Simpson regained custody of his two children, and relocated to the Miami area.
