Weekend attacks in Cork on two elderly people have prompted the Garda to urge people to check on their elderly neighbours regularly. On Sunday at 4 a.m., a 71-year-old man was tied up at Rathcooney, on the north side of the city, having been robbed of £80 in cash. He was able to free himself after about four hours and alert gardai.
At 5 a.m. yesterday, a 70-year-old woman, living alone in Camden Quay, was confronted by a man in her bedroom. The woman was robbed of £50. The conditions of both elderly people were described as stable and they were kept in hospital for a short time.
