Businesses affected by Storm Desmond are to receive emergency payments of up to €5,000 each.

The money will be distributed from a €5 million fund channelled through the Irish Red Cross.

The unvouched payments will be made electronically over the next few weeks and will be in accounts by Christmas.

A second phase of funding, which will be vouched, will be made available in the coming weeks.
