Taoiseach Enda Kenny is to arrange a meeting with Independents 4 Change TD Mick Wallace next week to discuss his claims about Nama and the sale of its Northern property portfolio, Project Eagle.
Mr Kenny had agreed to hold a meeting with Mr Wallace this week, but no contact was made between them. The Wexford TD said he sent two emails to Mr Kenny seeking details of a meeting but he got no reply. A spokesman for the Taoiseach said he was happy to meet Mr Wallace.
“The Taoiseach will, of course, meet Mr Wallace and his office will be contacted early next week to make arrangements. The Taoiseach has been quite clear that if Mr Wallace has information it should be given to the appropriate authorities.”
Mr Wallace met Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin and Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams this week to discuss the allegations. Sources say Mr Martin told a meeting of his front bench on Tuesday that a commission of investigation should take place sooner rather than later.
But a spokeswoman for Mr Martin insisted the party’s position has not changed. She said: “The party leader has said a number of times we have concerns about the nature of the allegations but we believe the criminal investigations should be allowed to be complete first. That has not changed.”
