Senator Marc MacSharry is the son of the former Minister for Finance and EU Commissioner Ray MacSharry. It has been a long and winding road to the Dáil for Senator MacSharry (42) who was first elected to the Seanad in 2002. He stood in the general election in 2011, but was sixth in first preferences. A higher profile in the Seanad and the resurgence of Fianna Fáil has seen him top the poll He has more than doubled his vote from the last election.
