Paris - A state prosecutor has called for the dropping of all charges over the Paris road crash that killed Princess Diana almost two years ago and asked investigating magistrates to close the case.

A statement from the prosecutor's office blamed the crash on the driver's loss of control and said there was no evidence to prosecute press photographers investigated on suspicion of manslaughter and failing to help accident victims.

The prosecutor's recommendations were sent to the chief investigating magistrate, Mr Herve Stephan, who has the final say on whether to send anyone for trial.
