Security has been stepped up in Ballymena as the PSNI say they have that intelligence dissident republicans are planning an attack.

Police mounted extra patrols around the town in response to a suspected threat.

"Police in Ballymena are concerned about recent suspicious activity and believe that terrorists intend to attack members of the security forces in the Ballymena area," said a police spokeswoman.

"The threat is believed to come from dissident republicans. As a result police have mounted and will continue to mount operations in an effort to frustrate that threat and protect the lives of security forces and the public," she said.
