The former James Bond star, Sean Connery, returned to his homeland yesterday for the election and said he would come back to live in an independent Scotland. Connery (70), who lives in Spain and the Bahamas, is the most celebrated supporter of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

The visit was aimed at bolstering the party's chances in the constituency of Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber.
