An air and sea search off the south Irish coast was stood down last night after it failed to locate a crew member from the QE2 who is believed to have fallen overboard early yesterday.

An Air Corps Casa maritime patrol plane was involved in the search, concentrating on an area about 90 miles south of the Fastnet and 200 miles west of the Scilly Isles. The 27year-old Indian national worked as a chef on board the liner.
