The doors of the Irish State were “firmly closed” to Jewish families fleeing Nazi persecution, Minister for Justice Alan Shatter has said.

He was speaking at The Shoah in Europe exhibition opening in his department.

“In the context of the Holocaust, Irish neutrality was a principle of moral bankruptcy,” he said.

The exhibition continues for the next three weeks.
