Tom Arnold has been appointed special representative for hunger with humanitarian charity Concern Worldwide.

Mr Arnold, who was chief executive of Concern from 2001 until last February, takes on the role in a voluntary capacity. It will entail representing the charity at international policy events on the topics of hunger, food security and nutrition.

Last weekend, Mr Arnold received a People of the Year Award for his "vision, drive and achievements" with Concern. He was also credited with helping the Irish Government to structure its policy on development aid.

Announcing his appointment, Concern chief executive Dominic MacSorley said Mr Arnold had “a unique capacity to convert advocacy into action”.
