The executive director of Amnesty International Ireland, Colm O'Gorman, has announced he is to move to a new role with the Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative, which campaigns globally for refugee protection measures.
In a statement on Twitter, Mr O’Gorman said that in a few months he would be moving tothe role of Global Director, Community Engagement, with the refugee organsation.
The Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative (GRSI) is an initiative led by the Government of Canada; the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees; the Open Society Foundations; The Giustra Foundation; The Shapiro Foundation; and the University of Ottawa.
Mr O’Gorman, who has been in the role of executive director with Amnesty Ireland for 14 years, said it was with “deep regret” that he was leaving Amnesty and those he works with there, but that he was feeling “enormous excitement” about his new role.
“Community sponsorship for refugees is an area of work for which I have huge passion - and right now, the role of communities is more vital than ever,” he said.
