Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is to spend €61million on the provision of almost 700 council houses and flats between now and 2017.
The council said it will provide the homes through a combination of building, buying and leasing schemes.
Some 316 homes are to be either built or acquired from property developers under Part V of the Planning and Development Act, which requires developers to contribute up to 20 per cent of their schemes for social housing.
Properties that have been vacated and refurbished are also included in this category.
Already under construction are 176 houses and flats, including 50 new units at Fitzgerald Park, Monkstown; 44 at the Rosemount Estate in Dundrum; 34 at Rochestown Park, Dún Laoghaire; 15 at Cromlech Park in Kilternan; 14 at Rochestown House; 10 at Park Close, Dún Laoghaire; four each at Clontibret House, Blackrock and Sallynoggin Park, and one at Moreen Avenue, Sandyford.
A target of 213 units to be leased from the private sector has been set with 75 of these being acquired in 2015. A further 75 are to be acquired under a separate rental scheme.
In all, 681 units are to be provided by 2017 under the plan.
