Sound advice: 'Don't get caught up in a frenzy '

'What I would say is, go for everything. For a young singer, it's tough now. There's an awful lot of pressure put on people through television and magazines. Directors now want you to look good.

There's no two ways about it. You can't turn up in your jeans and you runners, with your hair not washed, and be 15 stone.

They wouldn't even consider you. Work on your image. You have to work hard. There's working hard and then there's working hard when the time is right. I would say, be careful about the stuff you do.

Don't push yourself. Don't get caught up in a frenzy of stuff that's going to ruin your voice. The best advice I would give young singers, is if you haven't made it by the time you're about 27, 28, if you're not on the right track, give it up.
