A 31-year-old Church of Ireland ordinand (student priest) has begun his mission to run 1,298 miles in 52 marathons around the perimeter of this island before the end of August, spreading the gospel as he goes.
Alastair Donaldson from Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, who has just finished his first year at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute, began his 8½-week run in his hometown last Monday.
He left Arklow, Co Wicklow, for Ferns, Co Wexford, this morning. Tomorrow he will run from Ferns to Wexford town.
Over the past seven years he has run five marathons. His plan for this epic journey is to run an average 26 miles a day, six days a week. He is inviting local runners to join him along the way.
