AMENDING legislation is needed to sort out anomalies in the Family law Act (1995) which mean that some marriages may be invalid, according to the Fianna Fail spokesman on Law Reform.

Dr James McDaid TD told The Irish Times that some people who gave their local registrar notice of their intention to marry in three months time later married in a district covered by another registrar. Therefore the notification was invalid and the marriage would be void.
