Gardaí are investigating the deaths of two men in separate road crashes in the southeast of the country.
A 21-year-old man was killed in a single vehicle crash at Kilmore Quay, Co Wexford, yesterday morning when the van in which he was a passenger crashed into a ditch. The man has been named locally as Kieran Dowd, with an address of Forth Mountain.
The incident occurred at Ballydoyle, Ballycogley, at about 9.40am. The deceased was re- moved to Wexford General Hospital, along with the driver of the vehicle and a second passenger who suffered minor injuries.
In Waterford, a 54-year-old man was fatally injured when his tractor went out of control and crashed near Cappoquin at about 10.10pm on Thursday. John Devine from Ballysaggart, Lismore, had been helping a neighbour and was bringing a trailer loaded bales down Mellerary Hill, Mount Mellerary, when the incident happened. Mr Devine was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital but died from his injuries at about 2.20am yesterday.
Meanwhile, five primary school children from Galway escaped injury yesterday afternoon when their minibus collided with a car. The incident occurred on the outskirts of Athenry at about 4.30pm. The driver of the car and two passengers were taken to Galway hospital suffering from shock.
