THE Shannon Regional Fisheries Board has expressed its concern at two further fish kills on the rivers Deel and Cloon which have wiped out thousands of young trout and polluted eight miles of river. It appealed to farmers to ensure that all effluent from farms is properly contained.

It said the Killilagh river, a tributary of the Dell, near Broadford, Co Limerick, had three miles of its fish stocks wiped out due to agricultural effluent. The Cloon river, which enters Clonderalaw Bay on the Shannon estuary, has had a five mile stretch wiped out by agricultural effluent.
