Rossosh - A US student, John Tobin, walked free from a Russian jail yesterday after being paroled halfway through a 12-month drugs sentence that provoked an East-West row tinged by accusations that he was a trainee spy.
Tobin (24) left the jail in the southern Russian region of Voronezh where he had studied as a Fulbright scholar and had been jailed for possession of marijuana. Tobin's lawyer, Ms Yulia Trakhacheva, said she and her client were "completely satisfied" with his release.
