Columnist John Waters has been appointed "consultant editor" of Magill magazine.

Columnist John Waters has been appointed "consultant editor" of Magill magazine.

Mr Waters, an Irish Times columnist who edited Magill in 1988, said his relationship with Hoson Publishing was not full-time and would finish at the end of the year.

He had agreed to help "refocus the energies of the magazine and the team there" and to establish whether Magill still had a function outside the mainstream media.

He believed Magill still had a role, particularly in highlighting those marginalised by the economic boom.
