Residents in one of Brazil’s biggest slums demonstrated over the fatal shooting of a young boy in the area, allegedly at the hands of police.

Some protesters briefly clashed with police after the rally in Rio de Janeiro.

The protesters hurled rocks and bottles while police officers responded with tear gas and stun grenades.

Eduardo de Jesus Ferreira (10), was shot dead on Thursday at the Complexo Alemao during a police operation against suspected drug traffickers.

The boy’s mother, Terezinha Maria de Jesus, told the G1 news portal that her son was at the door of their house when she saw a police officer shoot him.

Police officials said the officers involved in the anti-gang operation have been suspended while an investigation is being carried out.
