Sir, – Eugene Tannam writes that war was initially declared on Iraq and Libya by the US-led Nato forces (Letters, March 21st).
I’m not sure that would have made either assault legitimate under international law but, to the best of my knowledge, the US has not declared war on any country since 1941, despite being involved in countless wars since then.
Nor am I aware of any Nato state having declared war on any other state since Nato was established in 1949. – Yours, etc,
