Sir, – Regarding the question “Should the Tricolour be replaced in a united Ireland?” (Opinion & Analysis, January 30th), why should the issue revolve around either historic religious or nationalist symbolism, as Jim O’Callaghan believes, or around accommodating some specifically unionist outlook, as Peter Feeney suggests?
Why not devise a shared symbolism based on the broader, natural environment, such as a (non-aligned) plant or bird? – Yours, etc,
