Citizens’ Assembly and political life

Sir, – The suggestion by Aodhán Ó Riordáin, regarding further use of the Citizens’ Assembly to deal with the issue of church-run and State-funded schools (News, May 28th), is one use too far for that particular forum.

One hundred non-elected citizens are effectively making policy decisions for politicians, so they can keep themselves at arm’s length if the suggestion is not well received, which is not a form of governance that our country deserves. – Yours, etc,

ANTÓIN Mac RÉAMOINN,

Rathfarnham, Dublin 16.
