Madam, - The current furore over Carrickmines Castle has finally prompted me to write to your newspaper about the fate of an historic building in Dublin which was removed many years ago to make way for a road widening scheme.
The building in question is the Bricklayers' Hall which was situated in Cuffe Street. I recall a considerable fuss when it was demolished.
Promises were made (by developers and/or Dublin Corporation) that it would be erected again in another suitable location and to this end stones comprising the outer fabric were numbered and moved off site for storage.
I don't think it has been reinstated. So what is its present status and who is responsible for its restoration? - Yours, etc.,
PATRICK GRAHAM, Braemor Road, Churchtown, Dublin 14.
