Madam, – Loans to at least one Irish banker apparently are not being repaid.
A lady on RTÉ radio on September 30th, told of spending 13 days in Mountjoy women’s prison for non-payment of a €3,000 local authority bill. At 13 days for €3,000, this calculates at 4,333 days (11.87 years) for each €1 million unpaid. So, a banker owing, say, €100 million would be sentenced to 1,187 years. If this appears somewhat excessive, clemency might commute this by 50 per cent. Another bit might be knocked off for a friend of Fianna Fáil.
As such, the aforementioned banker would deservedly only spend 500 years behind bars. – Yours, etc,
