Sir, – I was shopping in Dunnes Stores this week for some kitchen essentials. I was shocked to find that their bags of onions come all the way from New Zealand!
I do a bit of gardening myself and I know it is not too hard to grow onions in Ireland.
Why are we importing something so easy to grow from the other side of the world and at the same time we are subsidising farmers to produce dairy that we do not need?
Maybe some of these growers could swap cows for onions and save a little on food miles and produce something that we actually need? – Yours, etc,
