Madam, - The feelings of "collegiality" identified by Judge Maureen Harding Clark are once again clearly evidenced by Eithne Donnellan's report in your edition of February 7th. The Medical Council laid down no effective sanction against three men who exonerated Michael Neary following their investigation of his repeated removal of women's wombs for no rational reason.

The trauma and agony of those women is beyond the power of words and it took the sterling work of Sheila O'Connor and the women concerned in Patient Focus to bring this matter to the light of day.

It is my conviction that the self- regulation and secrecy of the Medical Council should not be tolerated in a modern democracy. It is to be hoped that Ms Harney will grasp this nettle. - Yours, etc,
