Madam, - I refer to the letter from Madame Mina Tounsi, Chargé d'Affaires, Moroccan Embassy (July 1st), in which she claimed, among other things, that: "Morocco has never invaded or occupied illegally the Sahara". This is patently untrue.

The 1975 Green March was effectively a Moroccan invasion and occupation of Western Sahara. The 300,000 Moroccans who participated in the Green March were organised by the Moroccan authorities and the marchers enjoyed the protection of the Moroccan military.

At the time, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 375, which called for the immediate withdrawal of the Green March from Western Sahara. Twenty nine years later, Morocco is still illegally occupying Western Sahara in contravention of UN resol utions and international law. - Yours, etc.,
