Sir, – Although the recent Garda figures showed that the number of road deaths in 2017 was at its lowest for 58 years, which is encouraging, they still makes for grim reading. The figures for road fatalities were 30 pedestrians, 20 motorcyclists (including pillion passengers) and 15 pedal cyclists. All road-users should keep this in mind while out there on the asphalt, especially those who have a “head in the sand” disregard for the existence of motorcyclists and the safety concerns that they have, particularly when traffic restriction motions are being put forward. – Yours, etc,
MICHAEL REDMOND,
Clongriffin, Dublin 13.
