Sir, – As a proud Monaghan-born tennis fan, I feel I must correct JP Montgomery's letter (March 28th), in which he asserts that Ireland's last Grand Slam winner was Joshua Pim at Wimbledon in 1894. We should not forget that Clones-born James Cecil Parke triumphed in the men's singles at the Australian Open in 1912, as well as the Wimbledon mixed doubles in 1914. He also represented Ireland in rugby and golf. A true Monaghan all-rounder! – Yours, etc,
