Madam, - The Irish Times has recently been carrying an advertisement in its "Concerts" page for a forthcoming benefit gala concert in the National Concert Hall, to be given by the violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and the Trondheim Soloists Chamber Orchestra, featuring works by J.S. Bach and Giuseppe Tartini.

The latter's Sonata in G minor is subtitled "The Devil's Thrill" (sic) in the advertisement - which also carries a most fetching portrayal of Ms Mutter, complete with violin.

Lest the unwary might be seduced by this description of the Tartini work into thinking that the ravishing Ms Mutter might perhaps indulge in some diabolic temptations during the playing of this piece, it should be pointed out that this well-known work has always been known as "The Devil's Trill", a description fitting the musical figure to which it applies, rather than that of Ms Mutter, so tastefully depicted in your advertisement.

In keeping with your oft-expressed desire to correct any errors appearing in print, I thought it desirable to call your attention to this little mishap, even if the error was not yours in the first place, but to be laid at the door of the designer of the advertisement - whose Freudian slip is perhaps understandable when one views the elegant soloist herself. - Yours, etc,
