Madam, - A report by Frank McDonald in your edition of February 27th, on Headfort's architectural conservation area and a proposed amendment by Cllr John Farrelly, stated that Headfort was offered €1 million if it did not object to the proposed reduced conservation area in exchange for the building of houses.
Headfort Trust wishes to state that this allegation is totally unfounded. Indeed, Headfort Trust has objected to the proposed amendment by John Farrelly with its own amended map.
Our proposed amendment is to preserve the vista and setting from Headfort House and its amenities, including the collection of trees and rhododendrons. We have proposed this amendment in consultation with the World Monuments Fund and local landowners. - Yours, etc,
DICK BLAKISTON HOUSTON, Chairman, Headfort Trust, Headfort House, Co Meath.
