Madam, - In the clamour for Seanad reform, much has been made of the tenuous position of the Trinity and NUI university panels and the anomalies arising in the electoral process. As an Irish citizen and Trinity graduate living in the most north-eastern county, it has given me great pleasure to be able to contribute to the formation of the legislature in the southern State.
I urge commentators and legislators in their calls for Seanad reform to remember the position of Irish electors outside the Republic and ensure that any Seanad electoral reform does not deny us our legitimate franchise.
While they are at it, it would be great if they could promote reform of the electoral process for Uachtarán na hÉireann. As an Irish citizen I would like to be able to elect my President. - Yours, etc,
CONOR QUINN, Lisburn, Co Antrim.
