Sir, – I find it hard to believe that the two biggest organisations in this country can’t agree on a double-header in Croke Park next August. The All-Ireland football final was planned for the weekend of August 26th, 2018, but has now been moved back a week to facilitate the potential visit of Pope Francis to attend the 2018 World Meeting of Families Mass in Croke Park.
Could we not have the Mass on the Saturday and the football final on the Sunday? His Holiness could throw the ball in to start the match to recreate the great days gone by when the bishop of the day would start the match. If Mayo were in the final, this could be the divine intervention they need. – Yours, etc,
FERGAL GAUGHRAN,
Mount Merrion,Co Dublin.
