Credit to DLSP who have reacted positively to the enforced inactivity brought about by the foot-and-mouth crisis in Britain. As pitches continue to remain deserted with all domestic rugby brought to a standstill, the Kilternan club decided to turn to the next best thing than being there and witnessing a game in the flesh; a live game on television.
Club pro Dave Lillis in an e-mail to the members asked them to head for Kilternan last Saturday and take in the Zurich Premiership match between Northampton and Leicester. He cajoled the members to "take the opportunity to pop up to the club, have a pint, bit of a chat with other members, watch what promises to be an excellent match and also at the same time help bring in a few bob in to the club coffers.
"With the postponement of the AIL matches (and the valuable pre-match lunches) and no junior or youth section matches currently taking place in the club) incoming revenue for the last couple of weeks is running at nil. After the live game there will be a selection of rugby videos shown including the famous Wales versus The Barbarians matches from the 1970s." DLSP's plight would be echoed by thousands of rugby, GAA and soccer clubs throughout the country during the present sporting impasse but the Kilternan club is at least being proactive about the situation.
