MEN'S HOCKEY: GLENANNE TOOK full advantage of the draw between Three Rock Rovers and Pembroke Wanderers on Saturday to go top of the Leinster First Division table with a 6-0 defeat of Railway Union.

They are now two points clear of Pembroke and three ahead of Three Rock, which sets up another intriguing title race when the league campaign resumes.

After their shock defeat at the hands of Railway last week, Three Rock could have done with a positive opening against Pembroke, but it was the visitors who took a first-half lead through Alan Sothern, who brilliantly converted their fourth short corner.

There were chances aplenty for both sides, with David Harte and Charlie Henderson kept busy in the Three Rock and Pembroke goals, but with just six minutes to go the home side finally got their equaliser when Peter McConnell forced home a loose ball after Peter Blakeney's corner effort had been blocked.

Glenanne, in contrast, had a comfortable afternoon against Railway, with six of their players - Eddie O'Malley, Shane O'Donoghue, David Keogh, Gary Shaw, Paul Fitzpatrick and Stephen Butler - getting on the scoresheet.

Corinthian, meanwhile, came from a goal down to beat YMCA 5-2.
