Racing: The Leopardstown authorities said yesterday they are "very positive" about racing going ahead tomorrow despite heavy ground and an unsettled forecast.

A decision to divide a handicap hurdle, with the first division kicking the day off, was made to insure a five-race card should there be problems with the chase course which was waterlogged for the last day of the Christmas festival.

"On previous forecasts, there might have been a concern about the chase course, so we decided to divide a hurdle to insure a five-race programme if the worst happened with the chases," said course manager Tom Burke.

"But our most recent forecast is more encouraging and we are very positive about the card going ahead as scheduled," Burke added.

No problems are expected for Punchestown today and manager Richie Galway said they were not planning to call an inspection.
