O’Donovan wins bronze at World U23 Championships

19-year-old from Skibbereen holds off late challenge in Linz

Ireland’s Paul O’Donovan won a bronze medal at the World Under-23 Rowing Championships in Linz, Austria this morning.

The Skibbereen man, who is just 19, held off a challenge for the medal from Adam Ling of New Zealand in the closing stages of the final of the lightweight single sculls.

Andrew Campbell Jr of the United States took gold with an impressive performance, and Franciscus Goutier of the Netherlands was second.

Denise Walsh took sixth place in the final of the lightweight single sculls.
