Queensland Reds coach Ewen McKenzie has admitted he would be interested in the Ireland coaching job but that he has not had any contact over replacing Declan Kidney.
The former Australian prop has been installed as the odds-on favourite to take over from the Grand Slam-winning coach after last month saying he would step down from his position with the Reds in a bid to coach at Test level.
He has been talked as a possible successor to Wallabies coach Robbie Deans at some future date, but told The Daily Telegraph in Sydney that the Ireland post is "the type of job I'm interested in".
McKenzie added: “I have had no discussions with Ireland, I haven't heard anything from them. They haven't contacted me and I haven't contacted them. I have heard nothing in that space, I've only read things in the media.
"I have said I am looking for coaching challenges at the next level, and I am looking for whatever the possibilities are. It's the type of job I am interested in looking at, but there have been no discussions."
