Video: Canada’s Jamie Cudamore sneaks into the French huddle

‘Cuddles’ seen the funny side of things - not too sure the French players did though

Canada were a joy to watch on Thursday night - they brought belief, resilience, skill and pure passion to their encounter against France. They also brought a bit of humour.

Clermont lock Jamie Cudmore is no doubt very familiar with a number of the French players, but he got a little too close for comfort when trying to join in on their team huddle.

The 37-year-old clearly irked some of the French players, French prop Rabah Slimani taking particular exception to the ploy, although for the large part his enormous frame and red jersey within a clutter of blue ones wasn't noticed.

That lack of awareness may even explain the two tries and 18 points in all that the World Cup minnows managed to put past a French side who for much of the first-half anyway were clearly rocked.

At that stage there were only five points between the teams, although France would score a further 24 from then on in (winning 41-18), but you can’t blame the man for trying every trick in his book.

Cudmore’s wife owns a wine label called ‘sin bin’ - no surprise considering the 25 yellow cards he’s accumulated for Clermont (he somehow managed to miss 110 days of the 2010-2011 season due to suspension) and the six times he’s been sent to the bin for Canada - but he came away from this one with little more than a few angry glares and a slap on the back for his troubles.

He certainly seen the funny side of it himself though - tweeting the video out on Friday morning saying; “Haven’t spoke french in a few months... Its ok still got it !”
