Rugby:Despite losing out to Wales in the World Cup quarter-finals, Ireland have actually climbed above the Principality in the latest IRB world rankings.

The vagaries of the ranking system have seen Wales fall two places to 8th in the latest standings while Ireland move above Warren Gatland’s side to sixth.

Champions New Zealand remain top, with Australia second, France third and South Africa fourth, while England complete an unchanged top five.

Ireland rise a place to sixth, as do seventh-placed Argentina, then come the Welsh, Tonga and Scotland in 10th.
